WhatTOEat
I love food, also exploring every corner of the city - and that's why I started WhatTOEat. My friends and I keep asking each other "What to eat?" when we meet, and I hope this app can give you a suggestion or answer if you need something delicious in Toronto (TO).
Problem
The existing restaurant information is difficult to organize and retrieve at any time. Some similar apps or websites are difficult to use, due to complicated navigation and UX. For example, there is no “types of cuisines” button on Yelp. Users also have to face the problem of insufficient and inaccurate information, for example new or permanently closed restaurants, or lack of updating the opening hours.
Design Rationale
I have conducted a questionnaire before starting the project, and 100% of the respondents had dined out in Toronto before. Even though having meal outside has become more pricey, it’s not easy to cook at home persistently. Besides saving up some money, we still need social and chances to try food outside.
Prototype

Yellow and green were used as the main colour tone of WhatTOEat. I want the product to be positive, energetic, and full of hope. Also these 2 colours remind me of many finger-licking food - avocado, fries, custard, scrambled eggs...

One of the features is the public transit function. Users can see the closest subway, bus or streetcar station of that restaurant and the transit method of taking public transportation. For my product targets on everyone living or staying in Canada, it's convenient when you don't know or don't want to drive, or who'll stay in Toronto shortly like tourists.
